The shared photos library icon is not appearing in Camera app

My wife and I use the shared library feature of iCloud Photos. Works great from the Photos app, I can move photos in or out of the shared library with no issues.

The problem is: the icon in the camera app that allows you to switch between shared and un-shared isn’t appearing anymore. Even though in Settings > Photos > Shared Library > Sharing from Camera is switched on.

I’ve tried turning the setting off and back on again, I’ve also tried turning it off, turning off the phone, setting back on, restart the phone again… still no good. My iPad, with the same settings, shows the icon just fine. Both devices are on the newest non-Beta OSes.

Any suggestions, folks?

I also had this problem after resetting all settings. I fixed it by turning off iCloud Photos (Settings > Photos), and the re-enabling iCloud Photos.

After a few minutes after iCloud Photos syncs, the shared library setting appeared and the shared library button reappeared in the Camera app.

Here's the solution (most likely)!

I also tried a lot of things as adviced from Apple support. The only solution that helped finally – and thankfully also eliminated some other bugs which accumulated – was to completely reinstall the newest iOS. This is what I should have done from the very first beginning and most likely will help you too:

First I made a cloud backup of my phone. Then I connected the phone with my mac and from there I completely reinstalled the newest iOS via finder. I can't remember the exact button but if you can see vou iPhone in finder I'm sure you'll find it.

After reinstall load everything back in from you iCloud backup. You unfortunately have to setup some things from scratch (like FaceID or Wallet) but it's worth it when everything is working fine again. Until iOS 17 I believed iOS is free from the Microsoft Windows known habit to make a clean reinstall from time to time to get rid of system bugs but I now know better …

Good luck!

@longzheng only resetting all settings is not enough, you also need this reinstall as I tried to describe. But fortunately you found a way better solution to this problem where you don't loose everything you gathered all the years like WLAN passwords or Wallet items.

But I had so many other bugs (family sharing wasn't notifying me anymore, share icon in camera turned on and off on a random basis, …) that I'm glad I did a clean reinstall that worked for all this other bugs too.
