How to turn off .jpeg to .heic format in uploading from Mac

I'm trying to upload pictures to Photobucket and for some reason my Mac is turning my ".jpeg" files into ".heic" when they upload. I contacted Photobucket and they said it isn't happening on their end. My Mac is a MacBook Pro running Sonoma 14.0.

Is there a setting to prevent the Mac from changing the photo format from ".jpeg" to ".heic" when the photos are uploaded? This also happens on other sites where I've tried to upload pictures.

The ".heic" format isn't supported by some of the websites where I share the pictures.

Thanks!

I take the photos from my Canon and save them into a Finder folder. Then I use Luminar to edit the pictures. I've been doing it like this for about three years now. Never had a problem.

Luminar opens a folder to edit the pictures. The pictures are exported as ".jpeg" into another folder as I edit them.

The upload is from the Photobucket website. When I select the pictures they are uploaded. When I copy the link to share the photos the link address shows that the picture is now a ".heic".

When I upload from Safari I have this issue. When I upload with Chrome I don't have this issue. Is it a switch of some sort in Safari?

I had exactly the same issue with my Canon and jpegs (and GIFs) being converted to HEIC on upload to Amazon Photos. I couldn't believe it...but it's an Apple/Safari issue. When I uploaded the same pics to Amazon Photos using Firefox from my Mac they uploaded fine and stayed as jpegs.

Apple seems to have done this without notification or me changing settings. As a long LONG time Mac user I am pretty annoyed as I told the Amazon support person it couldn't possibly be Apple....turns out I was wrong on that.

Note: no iPhone involved in this process...purely Mac...and it started in October so probably part of an OS upgrade.
