Row of boxed question marks appear on Mac Pages documents via Mac Mail

This has only happened since I updated to Sonoma and only seems to affect what I presume are Word documents and appear on Mac Mail as Pages .I have not received any PDF files lately, so I don't know whether they'll be affected. Can some please advise me ? Thanks

all is well, I just had to restart the computer
