Remove link from saved attachment - Mac mail

This worked for me. Glad to share. It was driving me nuts.

in finder

view as columns

select the file

in the preview see a button link to email sender

right click

remove

incredible how obscure this is. I can find no way else to do this, and zero info anywhere

Open the file in Preview and Export it as it is. It will aks you to replace the file and you click on replace et voilà.

Currently I'm stuck with unlinking the stored attachements manually, which is not convenient at all.

Turning this "feature" off does not seem to be possible at the moment.

What I need is to remove that "feature" which is incredibly annoying. I work a lot with downloaded attachments, and I do *not* want to keep a link to an email, and nor do I wish to spend half an hour each day removing unwanted links.

When I open an attachment from the email in Preview, I get a warning: an older version of this document is available .. and this blocks my saving the attachement.

Thanks, Gene; I have found this workaround elsewhere online, but I can't make it work. When I rightclick (ctrl-click), all that happens is it takes me to the email. This is the worst default setting I've ever seen; if I hadn't noticed it, I'd be sending my customers email threads to my suppliers! Only way I've found to get around it is to email the attachment to my husband and have him send it back to me to my gmail account! This is making mac mail unusable for me! I can't believe nobody thought this through! I was on the phone with Apple for two hours and the SUPERVISOR tech had no idea what this even WAS, much less how to fix it. So disgusted.

Right-clicking or left clicking or option clicking gives me no contextual menu. I can't seem to get rid of the little envelopes, and the little envelopes have replaced FILE SIZE data, which is crucial to my work. Help!

Yes this is ridiculous, Apple needs to fix this ASAP, I deal with a lot of attachments coming through on email, and other applications such as InDesign, wont allow me to use these images until i've gone through and remove the mail linking, one by one - insane!!!! please fix ASAP

Can't be serious I'm supposed to do that with all 121 files I downloaded last week... With legal correspondence and troubleshooting I cannot delete the original emails for a while.

By the way, if your download is a form that needs to be filled out in 8 copies, all 8 will have links to the sender's email.

thanks for your describtion. That's actually the "manual way" of unlinking the attachements I mentioned.

I suppose you did not find a way to turn it off anywhere else, right?
