Not getting the most of iPhone Camera

Good Evening.

The iPhone 15 pro max, as i know, have a 24MP main camera, and a 12MP telephoto camera.

Why are the pictures im taking with the main and telephoto lens, having 18MP(for the main) and 9MP (for the telephoto) as result, and not the full quality? Do i have to activare the pro raw thing? I am a casual user and i do not use photoshop to edit but i tought the photos should have the normal MP size of the main lens we are using.

For example, i just tested taking a picture with my iPad Air 2022 and the picture was takken using 12MP wich is the normal of the camera on it.

Anybody can help me out please?

Thanks in advance

Hey there DragonH,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities.

To get started, you would be correct in that Apple ProRAW would need to be enabled in order to select a higher photo resolution. For more details, check out this link here: Take Apple ProRAW photos with your iPhone camera - Apple Support

Change Apple ProRAW default resolution and format
On iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max, you can set your ProRAW default resolution to 12 MP, 48 MP, or HEIF 48 MP.
1. Go to Settings  > Camera > Formats.
2. Turn on ProRAW & Resolution Control.
3. Tap Pro Default, then choose HEIF Max, ProRAW 12 MP, or ProRAW Max as your default resolution and format.

Note: If you’ve chosen Most Compatible as your Camera Capture setting, JPEG Max is used instead of HEIF Max.

Additionally, editing software wouldn't be needed when taking ProRAW photos, these photos just offer additional creative control when you make adjustments to exposure, color, and white balance which can all be adjusting from the Photos app on your iPhone.

Let us know if that's able to help.

Take care.
