iCloud Drive

When I compare my iCloud Drive on my iPad and my iPhone, they differ. My iPad is correct saying I have 8 items in my Documents folder, 1 item in my Downloads folder and no items in my Shortcuts folder.

My iPhone tells me I have 9 items in my Documents folder but when I count them there are only 8. My iPhone tells me I have 2 items in my Downloads folder but there is only one. My iPhone tells me I have 1 item in my Shortcuts folder but when I click on it it says ‘folder empty’

So my iPad is correct but my iPhone tells me I have extra items in different folders but when I count them they match my iPad. What are these ghost items and how do I get my devices to show the same info?

I’ve tried resetting my iPhone.

iPhone 11, iOS 17

Hi VinylJunkie57,

Let's see if we can help sort this out for you so the number of documents appear correctly on both device.

We know you mentioned you have tried resetting your iPhone, since there are several different types of resets we'd need to know which one you performed.

If you haven't already, turn off iCloud Drive on your iPhone by going to Settings > tap your name > iCloud > turn off iCloud Drive. See Set up iCloud Drive - Apple Support and then Restart your iPhone - Apple Support.

After restarting go back to your iCloud settings and turn the iCloud Drive back on. If you still need help, reach back out and let us know which reset you performed.

Take care!

Hello VinylJunkie57,

Thanks for the additional information regarding your iCloud Drive mismatched data issue.

The next step is to make sure all devices are up to date with the latest OS versions. This simple step can resolve issues like this:

Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

I performed a full reset on the iPhone. I also tried turning off my iCloud Drive on my iPhone and then restarted my phone. I still see the same problem.

When I go to my mac and sign in to iCloud.com, I see the correct info that mirrors my iPad. My iPhone still shows there being one item in my shortcuts folder, but as I say, when i click on that folder it says 'folder empty'
