Hello we are getting this message
on our MacBook air
in some of community notes it mentions linked to mcafee and to reinstall mcafee - tried that didn't work
Someone also mentioned getting Mcafee on a chat - which I am finding very hard to find out how to do this
any advice welcomed

I didn’t know I was installing it - It started out of nowhere- I didn’t select any sites
I found a folder under
usr\local\mcafee
for Statefulfirewal but don’t know if genuine
we use Mcafee for antivirus
and leave Macs firewall on

I am unclear what you mean by “some much disruptive software” and “system in disarray”
we have been working fine over a year until recently and now we have shutting down laptop - we can force shutdown by holding power key for a while
Have you had similar experiences ?

The advice is NOT to install any AV or Cleaning software or, if you have it, uninstall it. It is completely irrelevant. Apple now has the OS sequestered ina read only volume which means that software cannot do anything that it is supposedly going to do - except mess up the system.
babowa has your answer.
How it used to work is irrelevant ... you have to deal with what's happening now.
Again, get rid of the AV and 3rd party firewall. Even the macOS firewall usage is questionable on home computers.

Can I ask if I get rid of McAfee AV
how do I protect my device from viruses -(I appreciate not to download any software that doesn’t come from APP store )

And where did you download the software from?
macs have a built in firewall. As well, you should not be running Mcafee.

Who is we? With some much disruptive software, it's no surprise your system is in disarray.
Apple has built in protection. Don't download anything from questionable sites and do not click on questionable email attachments.
