Outdoor Walk activity screen disappears during activity

Apple Watch Series 8, Watch OS 10..0.1, ios 17.0.3

Recently after OS updates, when I use the Outdoor Walk activity, it goes away during the walk. Before, the stopwatch/distance etc. face stayed on the watch face for the entire walk.

Now, at some point during the activity it changes back to the clock watch face and I can't figure out how to get back to the Activity recording to End, and therefore record it.

No matter what I try, swiping left or right it won't return to the stopwatch area. If I go back to activity/Outdoor

Walk, it just starts a new walk recrording. How do I get back to it???
