Does 15 Pro not record depth info with HEIF Max?

I was testing out the setting where the iPhone can save depth info when it detects a face. But I can’t get it to work. I keep my camera in HEIF max. I took a picture of a person, and even tapped to focus on their face. But it’s not saving depth info and not allowing me to turn it into a portrait photo after the fact. Does it not work with HEIF max?

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 17

This is not helpful at all and didn’t answer my question at all. Did a bot read this and write that reply?

I found the answer myself. Depth info is NOT captured when shooting in HEIF max.

Hey there yair_marx,

Thanks for reaching out! Make sure you have your iPhone set up in Settings to allow this format when taking photos. Use the link below to help with capturing media in HEIF or HEVC format as well as troubleshooting steps you can try:

A pity. It seems that Portrait mode does not work with any of the Apple Pro Raw resolutions, not only HEIF Max, as stated here:

Take Apple ProRAW photos with your iPhone camera – Apple Support (UK)

"Apple ProRAW is available on all cameras, including the front camera. Apple ProRAW isn’t supported in Portrait mode."

And that seems to apply to the automatic Portrait Mode when a face is detected as well. But it is not explicitly mentioned.
