Snap to grid bug - everything snaps to top right corner of desktop

Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 2019 16 inch MacBook Pro MacOS Sonoma 14.0

Snap to grid bug - at some point snap to grid sends all my desktop items to the top right corner and stacks them. I can turn off Snap to grid and then move them around, but once I put it back on and drag anything, it flies to the top right corner again. Restarting the computer stops this behavior, but only temporarily. Once it starts again, it stays that way until restarted. I have adjusted grid size and everything but it does not help

This works but only temporarily. Very sporadically the problem starts and gets locked in until making this adjustment or restarting

Old issue, new issue, what changed?

you do not say what macOS...

I would try —Control click on the Desktop

Verify you are not using Stacks...make some changes and compare your results as you sort through the issue

I have absolutely the same issue. It started in Ventura last year. After some time I managed to narrow it down. It seemed it only occurs when an Adobe app is open (it didn't happen with all of them, and I tested a few that I had on my computer at the time, but Photoshop and Illustrator were among the ones that lead to this behaviour).

It started as soon as I open any of them, and it then goes back to normal when I quit the said Adobe App. I even had a very long session with their support, as I thought they are the ones causing it (as no other app on my computer did that). They couldn't solve it, so eventually I upgraded to Ventura (this time a clean install, rather than an upgrade), and everything worked fine. Adobe apps no longer caused that problem.

Guess what though, the problem is back, and now it happens with no Adobe app being open... I drives me mad :(

New issue.

I did put my OS in the very first line of my post.

I also described what changed: used to be able to drag icons around your desktop wherever you like and they would snap to the nearest grid vertex. Instead they are all flying to to the top right corner on top of each other

My screenshot of settings shows I'm not using stacks

Try making changes to the new Stage Manager settings and compare your results...

Organize your Mac desktop with Stage Manager
