5x not engaging when selected

When trying to use the 5x zoom on the iPhone 15pro max, I find that most of the time it is actually switching to the main camera and cropping digitally while I really need the 5x camera to engage to have better quality. It’s even more frustrating in dark situations. When I finally get it to engage the quality is significantly better. It is happening on both photo and video. I am wondering if there is an option to force the 5x camera to be engaged when needed or disable the super digital zoomed main camera (something similar to the macro disabling option…) ?

Hello Rami D,

This page can help out with taking great photos with the iPhone: Take great photos and videos - Apple Support

Zoom in or out
• On all models, open Camera  and pinch the screen to zoom in or out.
• On iPhone models with Dual and Triple camera systems, switch between 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 2.5x, 3x, and 5x to quickly zoom in or out (depending on your model). For a more precise zoom, touch and hold the zoom controls, then drag the slider right or left.

Be sure to also check the iPhone is using the latest iOS version (17.0.3 at the moment) at Settings > General > About.
