If you’re getting an unsupported SIM message, that means the phone is carrier locked.
Only the carrier it is locked to can unlock it. It’s unlikely they will do so for you since you are not their customer.
Is your phone unlocked for use on other carriers? What is the full error message that you get? Where did you get the phone in the U.S.?
That message generally indicates that your “New only to you” device is carrier-locked to another carrier.
And the lock can only be released by that prior “locking” carrier.
