A required download is missing - MBA mid2011

Hi,

I need to upgrade my mid 2011 macbook air from Yosemite to El Capitan, or anything up to Sierra.

I downloaded the El Capitan disk image, followed installing instructions but got an error message.

Tried a different route: option+cmd+R, reinstall OS (it gives me El Capitan to chose from). When trying to install, I keep receiving "A required download is missing"

I don't have any other mac at hand for those kind of workarounds.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you able to restart your Mac normally?

If so try upgrading it to High Sierra according to How to download and install macOS - Apple Support. Use the App Store.

Is there a reason you want to limit macOS to Sierra? To my knowledge High Sierra will convey nothing but advantages over Sierra.
