Need help, please setting up ScanDisk extreme 1T on M1 2021

Nearly every source I read or see tells me to erase the information on a fresh off the Amazon truck, out-of-the-box ScanDisk 1T. I am not able to erase anything.

iMac (M1, 2021)

SanDisk Extreme 1TB portable SSD.

Disk Utilities, and yes, it does recognize the SSD drive. I AM guessing it IS safe to procede with the erase (as now I am able to select the drive I now see)

By "ScanDisk extreme 1T" I am assuming you are referring to either the SanDisk Extreme 1TB microSDXC memory card or the SanDisk Extreme 1TB portable SSD. If so, which is it?

What app are you using to erase it? Disk Utility? If so, does the app "see" this device?
