I did not see new user guides in the Book app. Is there a comprehensive downloadable Apple user guide? Is there a recommended third party manual?

At this time I can't see the Apple Books version of the new User Guide but I'm sure it will be available soon. Until then the online version is available, just make sure you select the correct iOS version in the dropdown chooser.

The Apple Books versions of the new user guides are still not available in the bookstore. It’s beginning to look like Apple has no intention of making them available in that format any longer.
That's not desirable. I can't go through online communities, trying to or understanding one or more features in an iPhone's Settings.
You can also access the User Guide in the Tips app. It’s at the bottom of the main screen.
