What USB-C to USB cables are compatible with iPhone 15 Pro for CarPlay

I am currently using a lightning to USB cable to connect my iPhone 11 to my car to enable CarPlay. I am upgrading to the iPhone 15 which has a USB-C cable but my car (Subaru) does not have a USB-C port (only USB). Are there any compatible USB-C (iPhone 15 end) to USB cable (vehicle end) that I can use to run CarPlay off from my iPhone 15? I do not have wireless CarPlay.

Thanks

Look in the (online) Apple Store. You will find an adaptor Lightning x USB-C which will go between your existing cable and the new iPhone.

With a bit of luck this link will work, but be careful for regional variations for where you live...

To make matters worse (at least here in Australia) - they sell USB A to USB C cable ON THEIR WEBSITE - yet it does not work with car play!! It is a Belkin cable, but on Apple site... they should declare it does not or at least it may not work with car play! I might have gone for iPhone 14 Pro had I known about this issue (no cable that'd work with my car)... I don't think I'm ready to replace the car (2022 Mazda) yet, especially not because of the phone. Not happy...

At least they refunded my money immediately and without asking for a cable back... that is a good service.

You have a couple options:

  1. You can buy a USB to USB C adapter if you have another USB C to USB C cable you could use
  2. You can buy a USB A to USB C cable

I bought a new cable which is USB A (the end you plug into your car) to USB C on Amazon. This should work well:

I especially like how it's coiled and takes up virtually no space when not being used, but extends easily when being used.

I had many cables work briefly with Carplay, only to fail a short time later. This was particularly misleading for me as I tried more expensive cables hoping to find one that would work long-term. In the end I gave up, changed tactics and bought a wireless Carplay adapter (many find Ottocast u2-air to work well but you need to check with your car model) - this has been a much better option, reducing wear & tear on our phone port. NB: a wireless charging magnetic phone mount completes the entirely wire-free setup.

I am extremely irked that Apple won’t make a USB-C to USB-A cable. I have purchased three separate cables now (Belkin is best but not with Apple reliability) and all cut out routinely compared to any Apple cable. I have considered downgrading back to my iPhone X for navigation to at least have a safe connection again - easier than buying all new cars.
