What's the procedure for downgrading from Watch OS10 back to 9?

I do not like Watch OS10. It's been a very disappointing experience so I'd like to go back to 9. Is it possible and if so, how is it done? Thanks in advance for the help.

Come on Apple, this OS update is by far the WORST thing you’ve ever done to Apple Watch. I can’t think of a serious reason to screw up all the functions and button uses that makes any sense. Now everything is hard to use. Give us a software update that restores the functions and button assignments……………..

It's like they sat down and asked 14-year-old boys to make the UX "cooler". The aggressively ****** color choices, making half of the apps harder to read, are incredibly frustrating. "DUDE! Green-on-green looks so sick! And magenta-on-magenta is almost as hard to read as my handwriting!" "Awesome! And look at this weather app, where the white text blends into the gray-and-powder-blue background!" I like some of the new features, but the people in charge of the visual redesign should be escorted off campus with a little box for their belongings, because they're obviously incompetent and must have lied about their qualifications.

The new watch OS takes productivity backwards. I used to be able to touch one button and get my ten most recently used apps, which I do a lot when exercising (tracking and music for example). I now have to double tap, and then the scroll screen goes in the reverse of the direction it used to, and the screen appears smaller. Very difficult to navigate while running. Also, the "Now Playing" app no longer controls anything. It comes up, but when I touch "iPhone" for example, nothing happens. Wish I could go backwards, but that would only be temporary.

Yeah, between left/right swiping to other watch faces killed, and the crown no longer able to interact with faces like kaliedescope, solar dial, metropolitan, all astronomy faces (and who knows how many others), I'm extremely disappointed. There's no reason to give the entire crown over to the "smart widgets" when they already can be summoned by swiping up. Have the crown scroll through the widgets once the upswipe has summoned them and restore the functionality of the many watch faces that use that crown. Interacting with the faces like Kaliedescope made the crown my favorite fidget. That is reason enough to downgrade. These unnecessary changes in WatchOS 10 have made the watch frustrating to use. Before, it was a breeze to use.

All the "Smart Widgets" are showing me is some weather (I can no longer easily swipe to my much more informative face of Carrot Weather complications), my activity rings (which I've never cared about), and shortcuts to three apps: Music, Workout, and Messages (I was able to get to those - AND MUCH MORE - just as quickly back when I could swipe left/right).

I am very disappointed and I am relieved I didn't upgrade my Series 5 Watch to the new 9. If this crippled user experience remains permanenet. I'm out. I'm not going to wear a source of frustration on my wrist. These issues are dealbreakers. I'll keep the white ceramic 5 on permanent battery life support (like my original iPhone 1, still works) and just wear it occasionally for fashion's sake. For daily wear I'm going back to analog. Tick tick tick tick tick tick tick.

Or Apple could shake off the "widgets everywhere" hangover and restore the delightful user experience this watch used to embody. I have never used anything but Apple everything since my first computer back in 1995 because of their emphasis and expertise in design.

But WatchOS 10 is as bad as the puck mouse. Would you wear THAT on your wrist?

you will need to go to an apple store for that. but you better off calling applecare and explain to them what features you need and used and are no longer working. your reseller also might be willing to swap your device for a version9.

i wish softwaremakers would provide choices between security patches and full upgrades, that way you still can stay secure, but with the version OS you like.

That is a short lived solution, as watchOS 9 will not get security updates, and eventually the iPhone will not longer talk to watchOS 9, so you will either have to stop upgrading your iPhone, and miss out on critical security updates that are much more vital to the safety of your personal data, or worse you will forget, and upgrade the iPhone forgetting about the Apple Watch, and wake up to find your Apple Watch and iPhone no longer talk to each other.

I am also disappointed with the Apple updates over the last few years where features disappear or become frustrating to use. An example is the original landscape view keyboard with arrow keys and Apple Music on the iPhone pro max size screen. A new music view appeared in landscape with the new standby mode but you have to have it on charge in standby to see it. And its only the current song playing not the music app. With Watch OS10 there is no feature of swipe left or right for anything, what a waist. Let's add widgets but don't remove the core basic functions from the original OS's. I am also thinking of getting my 15 year old Citizen solar watch still functioning as my daily and leave the Apple for exersise.

So you can swipe left and right on the faces, but you have to hold it down and then scroll. Also the crown will interact with faces, tap it once to put it in the mode for the crown to interact (on astrology face, tap the moon and then the crown works to show phases again). It’s to help with unintended scrolling or crown interactions I guess. It’s annoying to get used to but the features aren’t gone. {took me a few HOURS to figure that out so maybe Apple should’ve been more clear in the tips that popped up after the update}

Not really.

If there is a way, it is getting Apple to do it, and that depends on your local Apple Store, as it would have to be sent to Apple, if they are willing, and allowed to do it. I do not know Apple’s policy, nor how difficult, nor how expensive it for Apple to do this.
