Hi my son has changed his passcode and can’t get in his phone, do I have to reset or can I get round it another way? I don’t want him to lose all his data/settings?

Am I able to access my sons phone (he changed passcode and can’t remember it)

iPhone SE (2nd generation)

It doesn't matter where they take it. If they don't know the passcode, the ONLY way back in is to erase it and set it up again. If the son has been backing up their iPhone, they'll be able to restore the phone from backup after resetting it. If they haven't backed up the phone, all the data on the phone will be gone.
