I need to send a fax! Email or other electronic sending isn’t an option. I found some apps that send, but wondering if there’s a way to do it without having to install an app? I have an iphone, iMac, iPad and MacBook Air so if it’s possible on any Apple, I can make it happen.

There is no way to fax from an iPhone without downloading an app, or using some Internet-based service.
A fax machine works by connecting to a phone line, and sending all sorts of weird tones over the phone line to a fax machine on the other end that decodes the tones and that usually immediately prints the incoming document – like a low-rent, low-quality version of a photocopier.
Your iPhone has access to the phone system, and I believe that it also has more than enough processing power to generate or decode tones – but as far as I know, there is no built-in fax app in iOS. That leaves the possibilities of using a third-party app, or having someone else's computer (on the Internet) do the actual work of converting one of your documents into a fax transmission for you.

Hi. Unfortunately you can’t send a ,,fax” without having an app installed on your iPhone. For me the best app is ,,eFax” from App Store.
Same problem here in 2024. The FaxFlow app did the job for me, especially since Apple does not provide any native faxing functionality on any of their devices.
I would be careful when using an internet based service that may keep your personal files on their server. I use the FaxFlow app, it costs money but at least I know it's HIPAA compliant when I send my SSN or other IRS related stuff.
