Needing to free up space on iCloud

how can I download all the data on iCloud drive to my macbook?

I wanted then to disabling iCloud drive to free up some iCloud space

storage I have 306GB of information stored somewhere on my iCloud drive. I cannot get the information. The iCloud drive just tells me to get more storage. Limit or set amount of space for iCloud? Hello, I have a Mac Mini with a 250GB Hard Drive. I have icloud turned on and set to "optimize" the space. However, iCloud downloads so much data that I only have about 5GB of storage left on my HD. I'm unable to even do a software update due to not having enough space. Is there any way to set how much free space iCloud leaves on my HD? Or any other way to control how much HD space iCloud uses? If not, this is a big warning that you need a HD that is as large as your iCloud storage or else. Seems to defeat the entire purpose of iCloud and especially the "optimize" setting. Thanks for any info.

You can archive iCloud data Archive or make copies of the information you store in iCloud - Apple Support

And then manage iCloud storage space Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support

Note : turning off iCloud Drive will temporary stop syncing of applications with iCloud but won't reduce iCloud data .
