Tried to install Sophos Home, did not work. Some of the popups say "Potential virus", others say to use McAfee or Norton.
Do I need antivirus, and if so which is the best?

A site you visited might have added itself to notifications in Safari. If so, It's a scam.
Open Safari's settings. Click on the Websites tab. Scroll down on the left side and click on Notifications. Remove the offending entry or entries.
You will NEVER need to have anti-virus installed on a Mac. At the most you might use MalwareBytes but nothing else is necessary.
As additional info, the most current version of Ventura is now 13.5.1

Thank you for the info. I'm not sure which are the offending entries, but two that are set to"Allow" are NullTX and SYSTEM ALERT...likely candidates? Should I remove them or change them to "Deny"?
I'd deny both or better yet remove them. You can also uncheck the box that says, "Allow Websites to ask for permission to send Notifications"
I removed them and unchecked the box...the popups have stopped. Thanks again!

Thanks, I inadvertently navigated to a scam shopping site and had these popups start from there. I think this fixed the problem. Greatly appreciated.
My Mac with Ventura 13.5 says I have 5 viruses. How do I know if I really have them or these popups are antivirus ads?
