Unable to change Apple ID Notification Email

I just learned that my Apple ID is using a notification email that isn't valid, so I want to change or delete it. I signed in here https://appleid.apple.com/account/manage and clicked Notification email. I've tried both to remove email or to change it. After I enter the new email (or select to remove it), I get a screen that says to continue on One of My Devices (see attachment). There are no other instructions. I thought maybe I'd get a notification on my other devices, but that doesn't happen and I'm just dead ended.

What am i missing?

Thanks

I tried all of the posted solutions and finally had to call support. Your notification email does need changed on the website, but do not use faceID to login; choose “use a different ID” so that you have to type in your current ID and password. This triggers the two-factor authentication. Once authenticated, I was able to successfully remove the notification email and then change my AppleID!!

This worked for me.

It's absolutely mind boggling that Apple's own login and security features don't even work on their own website.

Further, the section that is named "Notification email address" is not actually that, because if you try to change it to your iCloud address it prevents you and tells you that you cannot use your iCloud address for your Recovery email address.

So why is that section named "Notification" when it's actually "Recovery"?

The "Continue on one of your devices" message is likely part of the implementation of the Passkey feature for iOS, iPad 16 and Ventura. It is currently only supported by certain web sites and apps, including the Safari app. The site or app is making a call to your trusted device(s) for you to authenticate from the device itself (using Face ID or Touch ID). Tap Settings, then your name at the top and it should prompt you for Face ID or Touch ID, then approve the action on the other device. Using passkeys is described in this support article —> Sign in with passkeys on iPhone - Apple Support

If you are still having problems with this feature when using Safari then an alternative solution is to not use Safari for what it is you are trying to do. Use a different browser that does not have this feature in it. See this August 17, 2023 post by Community Specialist Chris_V89 at i followed the exact steps of the app spe… - Apple Community

- So I ended up getting on the phone with Apple about this… turns out it was an issue with Safari. As soon as I tried to create a new app-specific password in Chrome, it worked perfectly.

I just want to applaud this solution. I’ve literally for years (on and off of course) been trying to change it. Even had contact with Apple Support which gave me some answer and then I had to wait for 30days (didn’t work). It’s like Mel says, the two-factor authentication has to be triggered in order to bypass “go to your device” message. (Because there was never anything on my device!) 🙏🏼

I'm getting so unbelievably frustrated trying to do a simple thing as change my Apple ID account email address. It says I can't use the new email because its my Notification email. Tried to delete the Notification email, but it won't let me and gives you no solution. It's like a catch 22 circle you can't get out of. Why does Apple always make things so difficult. Any other website I change my email on is extremely simple! I don't use my old Apple ID email anymore so I'm trying to change it to the email I currently use. HELP!!!!
