Battery drain faster using External monitor on MacBook Pro M1

I have MacBook Pro M1 currently running on macOS Ventura ver 13.4. I recently bought external monitor as a secondary screen to be used for my work. The external monitor is powered separately and connected with HDMI cable with the help of USB type C to HDMI attachment from MacBook side. (Battery health is Normal with 98% Max capacity)

Since started using the external monitor, I am seeing bettery draining fast with both active usage and in a sleep mode. (Battery drains from 100% to around 55% in sleep mode in span of around 12 hours). I even tried turning off the monitor in night with as is attachment connection but still seeing similar trend in loss of Battery. Lastly, I tried unplugging the HDMI cable from the a dongle which is connected to a MacBook via type C and same things are happening (which is unusual to me).

Is there anything that I could do that helps in using battery more efficiently without disconnecting wire connection every time after I needed to use.

TIA for your response/feedback on this.

Try unplugging the external monitor and compare your results...(?)

Use the magsafe as the power supply...

If you are near the mains leave it plugged in...

verify your software is up to date…

The current stable release of Ventura including bug fixes, security updates is macOS Ventura 13.5.1

I have exactly the same problem on a M2 13" MacBook Pro. In normal conditions the battery lasts for about 7/8 hours. As soon as I plug in an external HDMI monitor using an USB-C to HDMI converter, the battery does not last for more than 60 minutes.

The solution of using the magsafe or leave the computer plugged in if it is near the main does not make any sense. The real question that Apple Support should answer is why connecting an HDMI display to the MacBOok drags all the battery energy in a so short amount of time.

Kind regards,

Giovanni
