MacBook Air won't play online videos

It's not the browser. It's not the internet connection. It's not Netflix or HBO Max. This is a Mac issue that nobody has actually been able to figure out judging by all the unanswered questions that were the exact same as this. I can watch about 4 minutes of multiple streaming services, then they stop working. The trailers on the video descriptions work fine. The audio is fine. It's a playback issue with the MacBook.

Did you find out what happened? In my Mac, I can watch videos on YouTube fine, but, if it is a movie, it doesn't work. I hear the sounds, the caption, everything but the screen either is black or white.

Sorry to hear you're experiencing issues when trying to watch streaming videos, and that it doesn't seem to be associated with any single streaming service.

As I've experienced exactly zero issues with this, I can't speak from experience, unfortunately.

So I do have a couple of questions that might point to what might be wrong:

  • When you say the video "stops working"...what happens? Does it just act like it's buffering, or do you get an error message of any sort?
  • And just to be clear...this happens when streaming video, and not when playing back video recorded onto your MacBook Air?
  • Are you running any kind of: (1) Anti-Virus; (2) Mac "cleanup"; (3) Mac "speed up" software?
  • Are you running any kind of software that the "average" MacBook Air user may not be running?

Any details you can provide will be helpful.
