Teaching Siri/dictation to recognize my name and spell it correctly

My name is Jirina and it is pronounced "YeeREEnah" - I've tried multiple times to add "pronunciation of first name" to my contact record without success.

Is it supposed to spell my name correctly in that field or record the phonetic version?

I dictate in multiple languages and I hate having to fix my own name each time.

I searched for solutions but the link provided by Apple support is inadequate.

Thanks for your help.

Jirina

Look over this link (bottom) and see if this resolves your issues. It tells you how to expand upon your info within your own iCloud Contact within the Notes section; then adding a field within to expand upon whatever you may need in order to improve Siri pronunciation.

First though . . .

Here’s the steps to follow:

  1. Launch the Contacts app on your ‌iPhone‌.
  2. Select a person in your contacts.
  3. Tap Edit in the top-right corner.
  4. Under the "Notes" section, tap add field.
  5. Select Pronunciation first name or Pronunciation second name, depending on which name ‌Siri‌ is having trouble with.
  6. Next, tap the pronunciation field and spell out the name phonetically (how it sounds).
  7. Tap Done in the top-right corner when you're finished.

How To Correct Siri Pronunciation

I am having the same issue and it’s driving me nuts. Previously when you could voice dictate the proper pronunciation to Siri, it worked fine. Now that you’re only option is to add the phonetic pronunciation in contacts, it never works. I’ve even taken it to the Apple Store and show them every step I’ve taken, and the genius has informed me that there was nothing more I could do and they just haven’t figured this one out yet.

My wife’s name is Briona. Pronounced Bree-on-a.

Additionally, voice to text will never get the spelling of her name correct. I have even gone into the keyboard settings and changed every single alternative spelling of her name to be a keyboard shortcut to her actual name. Even though these are all in place, every single time I try to voice dictate her name in text, it gets it wrong. Even the accurate spelling of her name never shows up as alternatives in the keyboard.

Apple: Please figure this one out. The diversity of your users needs to be reflected in its capacity to pronounce different names. Please put more resources towards this issue. It’s driving users nuts.

Hi babes, I can help you. Took a little practice but, If you choose Phonetic First Name and spell it how it’s pronounced…Siri will pronounce it that way. However , if you hyphenate it, Siri will sound it out as she says your name if that makes sense.

so with that being said. Spell it all the way through with no hyphens. Toodles ;) oh and you may have to spell it a few different ways so she will pronounce it correctly. K,bye !

Same here, my sister is Lara, and with dictation it always spells it Laura, even though I am speaking very clearly. It's ridiculous that there's no way to fix this on iPhone. Would love to know if someone has a solution. This can be downright offensive. as someone that does business 10 hours a day or so I definitely use dictation constantly

People who get "offended" because their name with an unusual spelling gets misspelled are going to spend a lot of time angry. I should know. I have a last name that is two words long, includes punctuation and has a variety of spellings. It's just not worth getting offended.
