Google Maps are loading on every new safari page I open

This just started yesterday, 8/14/23. Previous complaints about this same phenomenon were told to "swipe left" in "favorites", but that was years ago. How do I get rid of this unwanted page in Ventura 13.5?

Quit Safari.

Relaunch Safari holding the Shift key down and compare your results...

If you have a startpage set— try making a change if it is your problematic "Google Maps"...

Hi Leroy, I'm baffled by this. Holding Shift down while click "new file" in Safari doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Except now, instead of Google Maps, it the Washington Post!

In looking at my bookmarks on the left hand side of the screen I have about 26 folders that I can sort things into like Geology, Fire, Mathematics, etc. but there is no lone bookmark for "Washington Post". I do have a folder named News Sources and inside that folder there is a bookmark for Washington Post however.

In the list of bookmarks there is a folder at the top right under the star Favorites line. Below that in a folder called Tab Group Favorites there are 2 empty folders called Untitled and Untitled 1

As I'm looking at this screen right now I tried putting the pointer on the Washington Post tab holding down "control". That brought up the option to "delete" so I guess that maybe that's it.
