Copy songs from iPhone to MacBook?

My iPhone is my primary device and so I download free audio files (including music) direct to my iPhone. The default app is of course Music. But I also have a Mac and have imported a purchased CD music to the Music app on my Mac.

But it seems I cannot merge the two. I have to 'sync' and therefore one library will be overwritten by the other (ie. Mac Music library overwrites iPhone Music library).

Is there a process where I can copy my audio from iPhone to Mac without losing my current Mac library?

Or Mac to iPhone without losing my current iPhone library?

Hi Michael Vallance,

If the songs that you downloaded directly to your phone were obtained from the iTunes Store, you can download them to your Mac prior to syncing so that all of your music files will be present when syncing:

Redownload music - Apple Support

If these files are being obtained elsewhere, we would suggest downloading them on your Mac and importing them into iTunes prior to syncing. There would not be a way to merge the files on your Mac with the files downloaded to your iPhone, so you will first need to get all of the files into your Mac Music library.

Yes that does seem to be the situation. There are apps that will merge libraries but they don't appear to be reliable. Thank you.
