Suddeny unable to view Google Photos via Safari

Mac Sierra 10.12.6

Safari 12.1.2

I’ve asked this question in the Google Community to no avail so perhaps some Apple officionados can help?

About a week ago I suddenly stopped being able to view Google Photos via Safari on my iMac neither via the Google Photos icon link nor via typing in the Google Photos address.

I can still view them perfectly on two iPhones and an iPad. I can also view them fine via Firefox on my iMac but I prefer using Safari.

I can view Google Images and all other Google applications using iMac Safari and surf the web fine with it. So the problem is confined to accessing Google Photos using Safari on my iMac.

What’s weird is that the bank of individual Google Photos doesn’t load at all via Safari, but I can see, in very hazy form, the title photos of my various Google Photos Albums. When I click on an Album its photos do load but in very hazy form.

Also clicking on the ? symbol in Google Photos does not do anything at all.

My internet connection is fine and there haven’t been any recent OSX updates installed on the Mac.

I’ve logged out of Google Photos, all other Google accounts, cleared my iMac cookies and cache etc and restarted my iMac several times, all to no avail.

So, any idea what’s happening?

Thanks.

Hi No1Seed,

Thanks for posting here in Apple Support Communities. There are a few steps you can try since you're having this issue with Safari. The steps in this article may address the issue you're facing. See: If Safari doesn't open a page or work as expected on your Mac - Apple Support

If you still have a problem after trying those steps. you can start up your Mac in safe mode to see if the issue persists. Keep in mind that opening in safe mode will take a little longer than normal, because it verifies and repairs the directory, cleans caches, and loads only Apple-critical items: Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Kind regards.

Hi No1Seed,

In the older post you're referring to the Google Support page here was shared: Troubleshoot issues with Google Images - Google Search Help

However, the original poster stated it was an issue on the Google end and the device used was an iPhone.

If needed, you can find the full post here: Google photos won’t load anymore in Safar… - Apple Community

As your issue continues you can also test the steps here: If Safari won’t open a page or work as expected on your Mac

However, you may need to contact Google directly to see if the browser version you're attempting to use is still supported. Google Photos Help

Best.

Thanks dialabrain. Yeah, My Safari and OSX are long in the tooth now but I think it was the suddenness of them not playing along with Google Photos, and Google Photos alone, that was puzzling, especially as I can still access all other Google applications. And yes I think I’ll just stick to Firefox from now on.

If I ever get a response from Google Support I’ll post it on here.

Meantime thanks again to you and all other contributors.

Cheers.
