See this support article about recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

Refer to your router manual for how to do this and if it is even possible with your model. You configure a router by logging into it with a web browser. This is not something you do with settings on your Apple hardware. Review your router user manual for instructions. If you have not changed the password it may be printed on a label attached to the router. This password is not the same as the one you use when connecting to wi-fi.

If your modem/router or gateway was provided to you by your ISP, you would want to contact the ISP support folks for instructions on how to change the settings on your device.

If the device is not capable of at least WPA2 security, you need to replace the old device with a new product.

If you have an Apple router, we can help. Post back to let us know what model that you have.
