I bought my third gen airpods a year and a half ago and I’ve noticed that the sound is quite low even if I turn the volume all the way to the max. I tried cleaning the speaker part and nothing works. Some times, the left airpod is also louder than the right one.

I was trying to listen to my Apple Music app on my Mac using my AirPods. Youtube would play loud but the music wouldn't. I found out there is a volume control on Apple Music that has to be manually turned up in order to get the full range of volume while connected. The controls on the AirPods do not matter if this setting is not turned up.
Maaan, you are awsome. I have just found comment and literally saved my airpods 😀 I have checked the mesh closer and it was completely blocked.
For cleaning I used isopropyl alcohol and ear cleaning sticks and some compressed gas and it works 😀

I noticed it happens to me after Siri notifies me of something and I stop the announcement. The volume goes down when Siri announces something but never comes back up. Asking Siri to raise the volume seems to fix it.
I tried all of these solutions without success. Then, after coming to terms with the possibility of having to buy new AirPods, I used a can of compressed air and blew it through all of the mesh openings. This completely fixed the issue! I'm not sure if blasting air will damage the tiny speakers, but it worked for me. Good luck!
After trying all of the suggestions in this thread to no avail, I then tried brushing the metal mesh with a toothbrush. Voila! My AirPods have never sounded so clear and loud!
I’m currently on my THIRD pair of these AirPods. The same thing that’s happened to your AirPods has happened to me with all three pairs. They last about 8-9 months and then the sound just goes and no amount of cleaning can save them. I’ve literally just been on the phone to someone while on a bus with my AirPods in and the person on the other end basically had to shout down the phone because I couldn’t hear a thing. Incredibly frustrating! Money down the drain. I’ll be going back to the original AirPods for my next pair.

If I didn’t come across this persons text I would have never used these AirPods again I did exactly what they said and listened to some music it was louder then before and had the bass they were talking about so I’m amazed and so happy.
Take a look at my post on this thread from December 1. I explain what I did to resolve the issue for my AirPods. However, being that yours are so new, I’m not sure if it’s the same issue or a manufacturer defect. Wouldn’t hurt to try though!
I kinda thought it was a technical issue instead of a hardware issue. Did what you suggested as a desperate last try before buying a new pair and when I tried back it was extremely loud. I'm glad I found this thread :)
My goodness this really worked! I was reading this in the office and, at a loss for rubbing alcohol, used the remnants of a bottle of gin in the staff kitchen. The change in volume knocked my socks off!
Tried all the tips in this article but the only thing that worked was the reader tip on removing mesh from earpiece. Just be aware it is not replaceable. my AirPods have volume again. That mesh and underneath gets plugged with earwax and no way to get rid of it without removing mesh.
Thank you so much for the advice. The foolish me through this guy gave me fake USB-C earphones leaving bitter with tiny minuscule sound that I was hearing. Just turn off the ‘reduce loudness’ **** button set there by default on my brand new 15 Pro, immediately sounding loud and clear just like the old times again! May seem like ‘no biggies’ to some, but it matters greatly to some of us audiophiles who like genuine product and couldn’t stand wireless rubbish alternative out there.
My air pods are very quiet idk why they were perfect and nice until a week or two ago now there very quiet but one is louder than the other also when I put them on the one that quiet sople around me tell me they can hear my music so the air pods sound more outside then inside
I figured it out! Search "Headphone Safety" and turn it OFF - that of course is putting your ears at risk, but now you have full volume control
