Friend changed from Android to iPhone and also a new phone number

The way not to handle this is to first remove the old phone number from his Contact and then add the new number. The result was that old texts showed headed by the old phone number and no name.

How I fixed it:

  • remove the new number from his contact
  • add back the old number (so far so good; his name appears on the stream of green texts)
  • add the new number (again)

Result was

  • his texts showed (in green as before) with his name at the top
  • a new text I sent him showed up below in blue

Now I really want to remove the old number, but I'm afraid to. Will it be ok if I do?

P.S. I had not sent or received any texts at the new number yet.

The issue is not on your end, that means said contact still has imessage sign onto another device ie ipad, mac etc.
