Macbook pro won't charge after MacOS update

TLDR: My macbook pro won't charge consistently since the last update. SMC reset hasn't helped. Any ideas? I don't want to do a factory reset.

A few weeks ago I updated my macbook pro. It's an old but trusty model that's never given me issues MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015, 2.7 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5). Then, the next time I go to charge it, the charging cable doesn't light up or work. Tried different outlets, nothing. But then I try it with the same outlet the next day and it glows green! Strange. From then on, it won't charge 90% of the time, but sometimes I'll get lucky and it works. I can't use the laptop consistently anymore, because it's almost always dead. I borrowed someone's charger to see if it was the cord's fault and same issue, so it's not a physical defect of the cord, outlet, or connection.

Right now I'm running macOS Monterey version 12.6.7. I can only assume the version I had before this one was 12.6.6?

Has anyone had this happen and resolved it? I reset the SMC several times and it hasn't helped. I'm pretty upset. I've heard of hardware mysteriously 'stopping to work' after an upgrade but never experienced it myself in order to force people to upgrade. I'm going to have to buy a new laptop if I can't solve this.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.6

Your MacBook Pro  uses ‘smart charging’ to charge in the optimum way, and only when necessary. Plugged in is Not necessarily actively charging. There is substantial hardware and software cooperating on battery and charging issues. Simply asserting a charging voltage against one of the interface(s) will NOT successfully charge your MacBook Pro.

BUT: There is a distinct difference between "no Light" and "will not charge', which you have not made completely clear in your description.

If no LED lights up un the end of the MagSafe cable, it may have failed to make a good connection at the MacBook Pro. That LED is set By the Computer under software control.
