How to open a pdf in Books?

I imported a pdf into Books but when I try and open it the pdf keeps opening up in Preview. I want to open it in Books. How do I do that?

Apple Books PDF Suddenly Not Opening I have a PDF that I’ve been using on a regular basis on my iPad. I opened it on my phone yesterday and it worked fine. Why can't I reopen my PDF file after editing on my iPad Air? Almost every time my professor shares my a pdf document for me to edit, and I open it, it can be opened without a problem, but when I try to share it, it doesn't let me. When I close it, it never lets me open it again, or even open it on an external app like Adobe Acrobat reader. I don't know what happens, could someone help me? [Re-Titled by Moderator]

Wow! That's really an annoying design! Preview doesn't treat the pdf like a book. Well, I ended up downloading the Kindle app and sending the pdf to that app so I got it working but I was hoping for a non-Amazon solution.

On a Mac pdfs will always open with the default pdf app ie Preview.
