my apple mouse will not connect to my new mac laptop

Just bought an apple mac laptop and my apple mouse that I used with my iMac will not connect to it

any ideas?

How are you trying to connect it exactly?

What happens when you try?

What type of Apple Mouse is it? Magic Mouse 1? Magic Mouse 2?

Is it charged?

If Bluetooth, have you unpaired it from the old iMac?
