How can you disable the new "edit" feature in Messages

how can you disable the new "edit" feature? when typing in imessage, you make changes/"edits" & send or you go back to existing text & edit it. Then receiver can click "edit" in blue & sees what you changed. OMG, I don’t want receiver to see that edit. Who wants that?! I know I can turn off iMessage completely but I don’t want to do that. Among other reasons, I like the unsend message

Thank you for joining this discussion, Motick01.

Yes. You would have read the edited message, and then by clicking "edited" you would have seen the original "send" as it was before it was edited. So we see only what is actually sent after editing, unless we want to investigate what it was they edited. (Those with the newer iOS versions, may see things displayed a little differently than others using earlier iOS versions.)

The linked article in the "Best Reply" at the top of the discussion gives more details about using the message-editing feature. The feature can not be turned off, yet it can be ignored, and / or not used.

Hi alizaye,

Seems a message sent before editing would already be received, and likely viewed, just like any other message. Any editing is done after that, at a later moment.

Perhaps you see the situation differently. We are all Apple users like yourself in the community, so no-one here can change features. You may want to send a feature request to those who work behind-the-scenes at Apple, using a feedback form.

That's a terrible idea. To see what one was thinking or considering before deciding to send a message. You might have an incendiary thougth about an issue but upon further consideration change it before hitting the send button.

As for unsending a message why would you even think of that if what you actually did send was the edited/cleaned up version of the message? So if I reply to someone initially with the words 'you're being a jerk about this' but edit it to say 'that's not the best option here'. They can still see my first thought?

Why would Apple ever think this is a good idea? What is the value of this option anyway?

Must Austrailians be up all night? ha

I got a text message with the word 'edited' in small blue letters beneath it. Clicking on that showed what they had typed and edited before sending or had 'undone'. So I was able to read their original text.

I will find the right forum for this issue. I was replying to this item:
