Sleep tracking stops when alarm goes off

Sleep tracking stops when the alarm goes off, it does not matter if I am still asleep or not. Has anyone been able to fix that? As much as I would like to stick to my sleeping routine and wake up at the scheduled times, somedays I am just too tired and want to sleep in.

I don't understand why the watch just relies on the scheduled time for the alarm instead of using its sensors to tell if I'm still asleep or not.

I've seen suggestions to cancel the next alarm, but that does not fix this. The decision to sleep in is taken in the morning, when the alarm goes off, lol!

Spoke with support but no help. I was actually impressed with the level of interest the first senior advisor took into my case. He connected remotely to my iPhone, ran some diagnostics and then did a follow up call. He had to transfer me to Health team, when another advisor took over and seemed like just wanted to get rid of me. To me, it looks like a flaw in the way tracking works, but he spoke like it was all working as it's supposed to. He told me sleep tracking stops when the schedule ends, which later I found out to be untrue, because on weekends my schedule ends at 6am, but as I have no alarms on, it actually tracks my sleep correctly (last Saturday I woke up at 6h38 and it tracked correctly).

Well, I guess I'm gonna have to live with it until Apple is willing to change it. Maybe I will contact support again in the future...

@scott-he-him Thank you for the suggestions, mate. I spoke with Apple senior advisor support and apparently there is no fix for this indeed. The only way would be not using the sleep schedule alarm, so I guess your suggestions would work fine. I just cannot understand why they give an option to use the schedule alarm in the first place, if the sleep tracking will not work accurately.

Appreciate your help.

You are welcome.

Incase you don't already know about this. Apple has a feedback page where it's probably best to provide your feedback, so it will be logged accurately. I believe the best area for your feedback would be the iOS Heath App section. It will have a dropdown for you to list your watchOS version and your comment can explain that its related to the Sleep tracking with your Apple Watch.

Hello,

It's sounds like you are using a Sleep Schedule with an alarm tied to the wake up time. You have a couple options to possibly customize the feature better for your needs.

  1. Turn off the Sleep Schedule altogether. If you do this you will need to manually turn on/turn off your Sleep Focus every night for your sleep to be tracked. You will need to use the Clock App to set alarms instead of using the Sleep Focus wake up alarm.
  2. Adjust the scheduled wake up time to be later (about when you sleep in till) and set an alarm in the Clock App unrelated to Sleep Tracking so the Sleep Focus won't be tied to it.
    1. If you do this option you could have a 'supposed to wake up alarm' (Clock App) and a 'don't sleep the day away alarm' (Sleep Schedule Wake up time). Your sleep will be tracked until the Sleep Schedule wake up time.

Track your sleep on Apple Watch and use Sleep on iPhone - Apple Support

"Update your full schedule

  1. Open the Health app and tap Sleep.
  2. Tap a schedule in Full Schedule & Options.
  3. Tap Edit under the schedule you would like to update.
  4. Tap the Days Active and drag the curved slider to set Bedtime and Wake Up times. The slider turns orange if the schedule does not meet your sleep goal.
  5. Tap Alarm to turn on an alarm and adjust your alarm sound, volume, and haptics.
  6. Tap Done to save your changes.

You can also turn off your sleep schedule as needed. In the Health app, tap Browse > Sleep > Full Schedule & Options. Then tap Sleep Schedule at the top of the screen to turn your schedule off or on."

I hope this helps.

Same issue Apple Watch 9

After my alarm goes off I make sure to put my watch back into SLEEP FOCUS if I go back to sleep, but it still doesn’t record.

I have 3 hours of missing sleep today.

I have been sick and needed to sleep during the day as well, even with sleep focus on, those naps don’t get recorded.

Last month SOME naps did.

It is very hit and miss but I’m struggling to get ALL of my sleep tracked.
