Airpod pro case won’t recognize my new airpods

So I bought a new set of airpods after losing the old case and figured I would just go ahead and upgrade. I’m about to use my new airpods when the case suddenly starts making that low tone ding sound and no music is playing through my airpod. I tried forgetting the device to see if that would help. Now when I place the OLD airpods in the case it’s give me no issues? Why won’t my case recognize my new airpods?

Seems the serial number on the old case would be different from the serial number of the new AirPods:
