Hopefully you had them connected to Find My. You can report them as lost so they cannot be used by anyone else. You can also view their location, but not a recommendation to approach an unknown person and accuse them of taking your AirPods. If the location is showing nearby, you may have just lost them and can play a sound on them to make locating them easier.
If no Find My, then you will not see them again.
