Unlearn a misspelled word from auto correct

All the suggestions I've seen do not fix my problem. My auto correct dictionary learned the word rifke as a replacement for rifle, and I can't make it stop. There is no "spelling" in my library.

Please help. I don't want to disable spell check or the auto correct feature, I just want to delete that word from the autocorrect dictionary. It seems that the process has change with Ventura.

I tried that a number of times, but the "unlearn" option doesn't appear.

My Library doesn't have a "spelling" link listed.

  1. ok, problem solved. After "On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Keyboard  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)"
  2. then click on "Text Replacement" (this isn't in the instructions of that article)
  3. highlight the word that is being replace with the wrong word, and lick on the minus sign. Now autocorrect for that word is gone.

The method you cite works for 'on-the-fly' spelling corrections/replacements. For your personal spelling dictionary, try this:

In context, Control-click the word to get access to a dropdown menu showing the options to learn and un-learn words.

You may also be able to edit your personal spelling dictionary text file. Your dictionary is stored at this location:

~/Library/Spelling

named:

LocalDictionary

<< I tried that a number of times, but the "unlearn" option doesn't appear. >>

did you get a drop-down menu at all?

It is possible you have never added words to that dictionary, so the file was never created.

I looked at mine (on Big Sur) and the only word in it was

Etrecheck

The article is from 2018, and it is also possible that private spelling dictionaries may have been eliminated or modified since then.

Nope, nothing in there about removing a word from the autocorrect suggestion. My issue is that my autocorrect has memorized a word that doesn't exist, and it wants to replace a properly spelled word with that misspelled word. How do I remove that word from the autocorrect database so it stops trying to replace a good word with the wrong word.

I type "rifle" and it automatically replaces that word with rifke. I want to make it stop doing that.
