How do I keep document files on my Mac after I've turned on keeping in the cloud?

I didn't realize my document files would no longer be on my Mac after I stored them on icloud. I very often don't have internet access and I need to keep copies of documents on my Mac. How do I keep them in both places?

Documents are synchronized across all devices accessing the iCloud account. They are kept on your local drive in the iCloud directory.
