automatic app updates

So I’ve hit a wall with this problem. The App Store on my iPhone 14 pro running iOS 16.5.1 will not automatically download app updates. I have to manually go into the App Store and check & install them. I’ve tried multiple things such as obviously making sure automatic downloads are on, making sure low power mode is off, be connected to strong Wi-Fi. Am I possibly missing anything?

I’ve had this problem on my iPhone 13 for the past 6 months. Apple keep forwarding me to the How to section of their support. But none of their solutions work.

I have a strong Wi-Fi connection so there is no reason why these don’t update.

seems a bit pointless having the option when it doesn’t work
