Selecting a new voice - can't figure out how to select it!

Hi, long term mac user here but new-ish to iPhone. Question - when using speech accessibility, how do I select the new voice I want to change to? I know how to find it, sample it, and download it from this article. But I still can't figure out how to replace my currently selected voice w voice the one I want.


I've tried tapping, double tapping, pressing the play button, pressing the cloud icon, but still my defaults don't change.


Any advice for me?

Hello Shulearoon,


  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap on Accessibility
  3. Tap on VoiceOver
  4. Toggle VoiceOver on, if not already
  5. Tap on Speech
  6. Tap on Voice
  7. Tap on a Name
    1. Select the name / voice you like
  8. Tap on the Download icon
    1. Once it is downloaded you'll be able to select it
  9. Tap on the downloaded voice (once fully downloaded)


I don't have anything in Pronunciations, but if you do or wish to add anything you can there. You can also change the pitch and add new languages.


I know you've said you've tried tapping on the cloud icon, this is the download button! Once you've downloaded the voice fully, tap on the voice again and it should select!
