DCP PANIC

About once every 1-2 days my macbook (m1 max) crashing and restarts at random time, there is no specific action in which this happens. Sometimes it restarts when I switch working windows, sometimes it restarts when a notification pops up, sometimes it restarts when I just highlight text in WebStorm.

Error report:

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.4

Troubleshooting a Crashing Mac:

A. Create New User:

For temporary use, create a new Administrator. See what happens when you log in to it. Do you still get this issue? If not, then is it a misconfiguration in the current user. If so, then you'd likely have to resinstall the macOS.

B. Reinstall the macOS:

Nothing would be lost. It's just that misplaced items would be placed back to where they should be and corrupt system files would be replaced by clean files. Go Here: Reinstall macOS - Apple SupportImportant: Prior to installing an update or performing a reinstallation, to prevent data loss, be sure to Back up your Mac with Time Machine.

C. A Bug in the Update:

It might be a bug in the update. Apple might come out with a fix, but they'll only know of this if it is reported.

D. Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Report this to AppleApple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback Apple receives on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed in upcoming updates.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - macOS - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: when this all started, and how you have troubleshot it thus far. Include the URL to this thread.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

Apple Support has not been very helpful. Is there a way to definitely prove is this issue is hardware related or related to macOS?

Perform a clean install of macOS by erasing the disk (deleting the volume group) followed by reinstalling macOS. With an Apple Silicon Mac, you also have the option of a DFU firmware Restore if you have access to another Mac running macOS 14.x (or macOS 12.4+ if you have access to Apple Configurator 2 version 2.16 since it is no longer able to be downloaded from the App Store unless previously "purchased").

It is critical not to install any third party apps, not to restore from a backup, and not to sign into your AppleID or iCloud. You need to run a bare bones factory fresh OS. If the Kernel Panics still occur, then it indicates a hardware issue which even Apple will take into consideration now since it is only Apple hardware & software failing.

You can also try running the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected. If the diagnostic reports an issue, then it means there is a hardware issue as well, however, the diagnostics don't always find problems.

FYI, if you have any external Displays connected, then disconnect them just in case the external display is causing the problem. I would also disconnect all other external devices as well just to be safe (especially if one of them has a display connector). There is a possibility the Kernel Panic is due to an external device, especially a display.

I would disconnect all third party peripherals that are not mission critical and test...

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/Anti-Virus/VPN

all known to cause issues on the macOS

t600xdcp is a reference to M1 with Pro/Max processor.

DCP panic is a Display Co-Processer [Graphics Processor] panic.

You need to quickly get your backups up-to-date, and contact Apple support with your kernel panic logs available to send to them, or post at least one in its entirety here, and reference this discussion when you call. (They do not rely on any conclusions we make here, because they have their own more rigorous methods for problem determination. But they will take advantage of information you posted.)

if they seem baffled by the panic report, be polite and professional, but insist that a specialist contact you.

I do not recommend going to the genius bar straight away, as they may run diagnostics, have it PASS, and return it to you uncorrected.

Apple is not here. Readers are other users like you, who volunteer their time to try to get the problem solved. Problems mentioned in discussions here are not tracked.

it is NOT the same problem.

For that specific issue, with the words Async Swap showing, Readers report many such panics are greatly reduced by upgrading to Sonoma 14.5 or later.
