Update Payment Method for iCloud Alerts

So I’ve had my iPad for years longer than my phones, so maybe I bought or subscribed to something and forgot? But for months now the settings app on all of the devices on my Apple ID constantly have an alert right at the top when I open the app, saying there’s been a problem and I have to update my payment details to keep my “5 GB of iCloud storage”. I checked my subscriptions in every place I could and couldn’t find anything on there, and I don’t have and never had a payment method put on any of my devices. It’s telling me to update something that was never there to begin with. Then I checked the iCloud storage plan on my iPad, yes it was 5GB, but it’s also saying that’s the default/free plan. I’m not 100% sure that I never bought some sort of storage plan, but if I did there’s absolutely no trace of that happening and no way to get rid of it. I’ve used iTunes cards in the past but never used any other method for putting money on my devices. I’m really tired of this alert constantly in my face. How can I get rid of it or fix this “problem” the alert says there’s been?

”Update Payment Details: There was a problem with your iCloud storage payment. Update your payment details to keep your 5 GB of iCloud storage.”

The only option beneath it is “Update Payment” and brings me to the payment details screen with every box left blank. Again, that’s because I never put a credit card on there. That’s the one thing in this I’m certain of.

Hi helicopterspit,

Apple does require that you have a payment method on file for verification purposes in many instances. Check your Apple Account balance to see if you have an unpaid balance on your account. If you do, you may resolve the error if you take care of the balance with these instructions.

Use an Apple Gift Card or App Store & iTunes gift card to pay an unpaid balance
1. Purchase an Apple Gift Card or App Store & iTunes gift card.*
2. Redeem the gift card.
3. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app, then tap your name.
4. Tap Media & Purchases.
5. Tap View Account.
6. Tap Purchase History.
7. Tap the order with red text that says Amount You Owe.
8. Tap Pay with Apple ID Credit.

After you pay for the unpaid order, you can make purchases with your remaining Apple Account balance.

If a message says 'billing problem with previous purchase' or 'verification required' - Apple Support

If you're not able to pinpoint the reason for the alert, you'll need to connect with Apple Support billing at Get Support or Contact - Official Apple Support for more account specific support.

Warmest Regards.
