With external screen the screen freezes after closing the lid of M2 Macbook Pro

Hi!

Like many other people I have that issue which seems still ignored.

I use my M2 14" with an external screen. I often close the lid or open it to share the screen of the laptop with smaller proportions (copy screen mode).

When I close again the lid to use gain fully my external screen it happens that the cursor is frozen and I can't do any action. I see another cursor of the mouse that moves but no clicks are possible.

I have a workaround but I can't be happy with using that workaround for such expensive device.

I usually click on the Apple menu > Sleep and close the lid very quickly. Then I hit the keyboard to wake up the computer. It works again.

Can you finally take care of this issue?

Hello LeDaf,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

We understand that you're running into issues with your MacBook becoming unresponsive at times when using an external monitor with your device. There are a couple of actions you might try to see if they help.

  1. Make sure that your MacBook is running the most current macOS version - Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support
  2. Ensure that all your applications are up to date.
  3. If you have other external devices connected to your MacBook, try disconnecting them to see if that is helpful.
  4. Perform a SMC reset. Resetting this can help with certain power related issues. Reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support
  5. Test to see if the issue continues while booted up into safe mode. This process will allow your MacBook to perform a disk check similar to First Aid. How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Best regards.
