Apple ID

My family has shared an Apple ID for a while. We have been getting each others texts, FaceTimes, calls etc. We are looking to make superset ones because this is quite annoying. Will it erase all my photos and contacts if I create a new Apple ID?

iPhone 7, iOS 15

No. Creating a new Apple ID will not erase anything.

Yes, Apple IDs should never be shared for any reason whatsoever. An Apple ID is the unique identifying account t for a single person, as such Apple has no way to know that multiple people are using it, so everything gets mixed together.

You will need to create a. new Apple ID for each member, and then sign out of the current Apple ID on each person's devices and sign in with the new one in the following locations:

Settings ➜ Account (top of Settings) ➜ Sign Out (scroll to the bottom)

Settings ➜ Account (top of Settings) ➜ Media & Purchases ➜ Sign Out

Settings ➜ Messages ➜ Send & Receive ➜ Apple ID ➜ Sign Out

Settings ➜ Facetime ➜ Caller ID ➜ Apple ID ➜ Sign Out

When signing out, choose to keep info when prompted.

Then sign in with the new Apple ID. You can then proceed to delete anything you don't need to want and will will no t affect other devices now signed in with a different Apple ID.

If there are children under the age of 13 involved, you will need to use Family Sharing to create an Apple ID for them.

Note, that any Apps downloaded with the current Apple ID will remain tied to it, and always require it and its password to update regardless of the above process.
