Mac Pro late 2013 12 core (Trashcan) via HDMI to a 4K TV

Hi, i tried using a 4K TV as a monitor with a 2013 Mac Pro (via HDMI) and the image was very small, didn't cover the whole screen etc. In an old thread on this forum i read that a Mini DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 Active Adapter might do the job. Can anyone confirm this? Thank you all for your time!

Mac Studio Does Not Support 4k @ 144hz Over HDMI 2.1? I have searched everywhere and realized that Apple is continuing to limit us unnecessarily when it comes to supporting 144hz over USB-C -> HDMI 2.1. This is ignoring the fact that the on-board HDMI port, for whatever reason on a $5,000 machine, is 2.0 not 2.1. The Studio can do 144hz with USB-C -> DisplayPort, however, I recently upgraded my system to a display that only supports HDMI input up to 165hz. I have tried several adapters, and no matter what I try, all are limited to 4k @ 60hz. Very frustrating, as it feels like we're being pushed into buying Apple's Display (or at the least, a DP supportive display) when this limitation is software related. There are several people with this same issue and I have no idea what to do other than to post here. How can this issue be raised internally at Apple?

Output from mini displayport to 1600x1200 vga monitor I recently was given a Gateway VX900 VGA monitor with a max resolution of 1600x1200 that I planned on using as a second monitor to my MacBook Air. I purchased an HDMI to VGA adaptor cable which works well to output from my video game console, but when I use it with my mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter it has lots of issues such as the top few lines being really spaced out and the fact that it can't display at 1600x1200. Looking on Amazon, all of the mini DisplayPort to VGA adaptors have a max resolution of 1080p or 1600x900 or something of the sort. What can I use to get it to display the full 1600x1200 resolution via my mini display port?

what make&model 4K display?

HDMI was invented for 720p hi-def TV sets, and is really nothing special. HDMI does not scale well at all.

If your display has ANY other inputs, you should use them directly, and NOT convert back to HDMI

Yes, I think it works. Also you should use HDMI 2.0 cable.

HDMI of Mac Pro late 2013 is HDMI1.4 30Hz which causes your issue.

You should use Mini Display Port to HDMI 2.0 adapter which can handle 4K TV at 60Hz refresh rate.
