I now have two iphones and two googlemail accounts. i want one email account on each phone. ie phone 1 has an google email address and phone 2 has a seperate number and google email address. Can I have a seperate icloud account for each phone and email address?

Yes. If you have not done so, use each gmail email account to create an Apple ID and its associated iCloud account.
And log in with it on each iPhone.
