Apple watch connection to ipad

Why can’t Apple find a way for Apple uses to connect their Apple watch to their iPad Pro? I am handicapped, and cannot easily hold my phone up to use, so I use my ipad for almost everything I do, including phone calls. I stick with only Apple products, so everything I have can communicate with one another, but it excludes the watch, Why? I think they could find a way to remedy this problem, especially if enough Apple users find it to be a problem.
