Mic in my MBP on El Capitan does not work

I am running a Mac Mini (early 2009) on El Capitan. In trying to connect to Zoom I found that the Mic does not work. I opened Preferences, Sound and Input and verified that the mic is not working. I also went to Preferences, opened Security & Privacy, and found that the mic is not shown in the left pane. Will apprecite your insights to solve this problem

Mac mini’s do not have internal microphones.

You need to use the microphone in a USB web camera or get and use a USB microphone.
